Monu Cleansing Balm* - £39.95 Monu, FeelUnique
If I’m honest, from first impressions this wouldn’t be a product I’d opt to purchase myself. Visually, the packaging doesn’t catch my eye, especially for a high-end product and the balm itself is so heavily scented, of which I’d usually steer clear of. Saying this, I’ve been using it for the past month or so now and I’ve got to say I’m so impressed, so much so that all of my initial judgements are completely out of the window!
As I’m a huge fan of Clinique’s cleansing balm (my review here), this had a lot to live up to and I immediately started comparing the two. I’d say although they’re both balms, they’re both just so different so would be attracting different markets or possibly be used for different desired effects. If I want a clean and fresh face that feels like I’ve had a facial treatment, then I opt for my Clinique balm. I use Clinique’s balm on a daily basis. Whereas if my face looks a bit tired and dull and as though it needs a boost of vitamins and oils, then I opt for this slightly more indulgent, heavier balm.
This Monu balm is a softer constancy, it feels a lot thicker, richer and more oily. You just need a very small amount and then you warm it in the palms of your hands and apply. I usually do this before I get into the shower and then rinse it off my face at the very end of my shower, just before I get out so it’s given time to work it’s magic!
I have noticed that my skin has been looking slightly more plump and I can only put it down to "the rich sources of fatty acids such as evening primrose, blackcurrant and rosehip seed oil” (monu website). These active ingredients are designed to aid in maintaining a youthful suppleness and elasticity to the skins appearance. Perhaps by avoiding richer face products I have been starving my skin of some of these ingredients, so I’m so happy that I’ve come across this!
It is extremely scented, which as I mentioned, initially put me off and I guess it would mean it’s not for everyone. I don’t have sensitive skin so I haven’t reacted in any way and I’ve actually grown to really like the scent of the balm, especially for use in the evening whilst relaxing.
Despite the fairly high retail price, I would purchase this balm to keep for a skin treat. It comes in such a huge tub (150g) so it’ll last for absolutely ages. Have you tried this balm before? Are you intrigued?
