When I'm having the odd little pamper chill out evening, one thing I love to do is experiment with my various nail varnishes and create my own nail art. I'm always on the lookout to add new 'innovative' polishes to my collection- the leather look one from nails inc is definitely next on my list!
For now, I'm still experimenting with the Pro matte finish topcoat from Rimmel, which I have previously blogged about and have teamed it up with a glitter topcoat from No7 and a black polish from 17.
Here's the results in both natural and artificial light:
To begin, I applied two layers of the black nail varnish. This one in particular looked quite thin and uneven after the first application, but after the second it was completely opaque and I was surprised at how quickly it dried.
Now I've never been a fan of glossy black nails, but when used with the matte topcoat I think they look so edgy and 'fashiony' (awful word, I need to stop using it!), it really does transform black nails to a whole new level! I've heard a few people saying how their topcoat didn't properly mattify all of their nails, but these two brands worked perfectly together (perhaps others might not compliment each other as well). After just one fine layer of the matte topcoat, the shine had completely disappeared and all of my nails were even and beautifully matte.
At this stage I felt my nails needed a bit of livening up with an arty embellishment. Using a coktail stick to pick out pieces of glitter (small sequins), I then carefully applied them onto my accent nails (because of the clear nail varnish they're in, they automatically stick). I created the triangle for a sort of subtle tribal approach and thought it worked well with the overall look.
Not only do they look fierce yet dainty at the same time, but the combo also lasted a fair few days without chipping in the slightest! I've always been a natural nail girl and shy away from plasticy false nails so finding nail varnish that has staying power and refrains from flaking/chipping away is always a bonus!
Although I'm still not a huge fan of bright colours or bold patterns on my nails, I'm attempting to experiment further with my large collection of polishes, so watch this space!
