Zoey's Beauty Picks Of 2012

Eeekkk the final day of 2012! Instead of doing my beauty picks of December.. I thought i'd take advantage of the change in year and do a large overview of the products that i've tried and tested and that stick in my mind as being my holy grails; my favourite products of the entire year. I've found it extremely hard not to reel off a list as long as my leg, as lets face it, a wholee years worth condensed into a tiny shortlist is quite a challenge, but i've been extra dismissive to ensure i've only included my absolute favourites. You'll also notice that there aren't very many high-end products, amazing products on a student budget, win/win :).

Topshop nail varnish in 'mannequin' & Sophora by OPI in 'lets do lunch'- You can't beat natural nude nails and i've never been a false nail girl. I bought the Opi nail varnish in NewYork last June (when I wear it it reminds me of NY which adds to why I love it so much) and pretty much worn it ever since, it's a lovely pale pinkish coral colour with the tiniest amount of shimmer. The Topshop nail varnish I received for christmas & it's the perfect nude tone.

Botanics purifying all bright facial scrub- It really does brighten up your face and has left mine feeling the softest it's ever been.

MaxFactor Xperience foundation- I've used this for about two years now, the coverage is thick and full so I just use it for nights out and as it's oil free it doesn't look greasy like other high coverage foundations can.

Eylure lashfix- When this came out earlier in the year they were a godsend! no more fiddling around with the tiny little tubes that come with the eyelashes, and this one stays put all night long.

Benefit badgal lash and MaxFactor false lash effect mascara- I've found my perfect little combo here, they're build-able so great for thickening lashes, the brushes are just perfect (always so hard to find a good mascara brush) and they make my lashes look so long.

Johnsons baby oil- Bit of a cheats way to moisturise, but once I get out of the shower I smother this all over my body, leave it for a bit then just towel dry myself. Great for when i'm in a rush, no faffing, it gives you baby soft skin and I adore the smell!

Enrapture heated rollers- I received these for christmas and have only tried them out once but i'm already hooked! How I have got through life without these I do not know. The results are voluminous and bouncy, hair that's just so full of life with lovely curls and waves without the whole ringlet prom girl look.

Rimmel eyebrow pencil- If someone were to ask if I could only pick one beauty product to have for the rest of my life, it would be this one. It's a bit of a sensitive subject haha (only after two years can I now laugh about it), but two years ago I was in a catwalk show for Brighton Fashion week.. & to my horror the makeup artist plucked nearly the entirety of my eyebrows off (it all happened so quickly that I wasn't sure what was going on) just so she could draw them the way she wanted them which was very arty and not normal. Apparently she was so good at plucking that she plucked the roots out so they've never ever grown back :(. A few of them have, but many haven't so consequently i've been left like misses potato head and a missing pair of eyebrows! Thanks to Rimmel I can now join the rest of the world.

Light switch lemon skin brightening serum- This product is literally ground breaking. It's just a light weight consistency and when applied there isn't the wet greasy look in sight, it absorbs in right away and the only way I can describe it is that it leaves the silkiest layer that is literally amazing. It truly does feel as though you have a new face! The smell is so zingy and fresh and lemony and it doesn't smell artificial in the slightest.

Pineapple palm Yankee candle- If you haven't smelt this, you must! I'd say it's a mixture of coconut and pineapples, but I can't think of anything else that smells like this. Yum!

Bun ring- Lets face it, none of us would have got through the year without this absolute must have. So easy to do and yet the style looks so great. The big ones are my favourite.

Soap and glory kick ass concealer- Better than mac in my opinion, Has two colours, one for under eye and one for covering blemishes.

Banana conditioner (the body shop)- This has transformed my fine fly away hair. Doesn't way it down one bit, yet make its the silkiest and shiniest it's ever been with the biggest bonus of it smelling sooo good! You can read my full review here.

Maybelline dream touch blush in peach- Lovely light weight cream blush highlighter, I use it on the tops of my cheek bones to create a lovely, not too over powering dewy glow.

Burts bees beeswax lipbalm- Leave your lips so soft and love the tingling feeling when it's applied.

Dr, Denese dermaclean cleanser and Premier model skin toner- Used in conjunction together, these products have transformed my skin. You can read my full review here.

The body shop's Vitamin E facemist- I did a previous review of this product that you can read here. But i've since realised I really didn't give this product enough credit and it really does set your makeup and make it last a lot longer, as well as giving you face that beaut dewy look.

Bourjois bronzer- I've used this for probably about two years now and I haven't/ wouldn't attempt to find a better one. This one just works and has the bonus of lasting forever. I also like the packaging and how it is practically 'un-smashable'.. as that's one of my pet hates about bronzers/powders.

Mint Julips lip scrub- Without this product i'd have such awful lips. It's an exfoliant for the lips that you get to eat after (tastes so good). You can read my full review here.

Vanilla body spray- Anyone that knows me, will know that vanilla is my favourite scent in the whole wide world and i'm always smelling of it. This is just £2 and i'd go as far as saying I keep them in business with the amount I buy haha.

Stila creme bouquet perfume- I received this for christmas and it just smells absolutely incredible. I'm so bad at describing scents, but it has vanilla notes which compliments the slightly sweet smell to make it more of a mature perfume rather than your standard 'britney spear fantasy' which i'm sure everyone knows. You spray it on in the morning, and can still smell it at night, so although expensive, it's definitely worth it.

VO5 plump it up dry backcombing spray- An absolute must for creating big voluminous hair. See my 'goodbye flat lifeless hair' post here for a full review.

Mac cremesheen lipstick in shygirl- love love love love. Used it probably about three times a day or more,  everyday for the past year. You can see my full review and my ideas for cheaper alternative dupes here.

So there we have it, my beauty picks of 2012! If there aren't links to my previous reviews then i'll probably be reviewing almost all of these products in detail soon, so watch this space:). I wonder what beauty products 2013 will bring...

Excited for NYE tonight and I hope you all have a lovely evening:). Being as ambitious as I am, i'm a bit of a sucker for inspirational quotes, I actually think they do the trick & can sometimes simply put things into perspective. As its NYE it's an excuse to be reflective/an enormous cheeseball so I thought i'd share a few of my favourites..

"Good times become good memories, bad times become good lessons"

"A ladder of success is never crowded at the top"

"Each day comes bearing its own gifts. Untie the ribbons"

"As for New York City, it is a place apart. There is not its match in any other country in the world"

"The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing"

"Believe you can and you're halfway there"

"There is a good reason they call these ceremonies 'commencement exercises'. Graduation is not the end, it's the beginning"

Lets all be excited about all of the good things to come :) !

Love Zoey xo

  3. I have been thinking of investing in heated rollers- you have now convinced me! x

    1. Yess, even after using them just once, i'd 100% recommend them!x

  4. Ooh, I loved reading through your picks for 2012!
I have to say, I totally feel your pain on the eyebrow issue, I had something similar happen to me with a bad visit to a new eyebrow threading place, and my brows have never been the same since - I don't even know what they look like without my trusty eyebrow pencil to fill them in, I never wipe them off if I can help it haha!
You've definitely got me googling the Dr Denese products, too! xx

    1. It's so bad that they genuinely just can't grow back!! I'm exactly the same.. I don't ever let the pencil leave my face, expressionless is not a good look haha!xx
