A bit of a negative post, but as a whole, I think the red carpet dresses from last nights BFA were quite disappointing, there were only a handful that stood out to me as having the 'wow' factor. Here are my thoughts on a few..
Natalie Massenet was wearing a dress from Peter Pilotto Spring/Summer 13, which does clearly have that wow factor, but I think for all the wrong reasons. It appears to have almost every trend rolled into one and looks too busy, dull and stiff, especially in this red carpet snap. The top bodice is clean cut, leading to a frilly peplum and then to the gathered fish tail skirt which is heavily embellished. I think there is just too much going on, a bit of an overkill. Granted, on the catwalk this dress does look extremely striking with the bright lights picking up every shimmering detail, but I think thats where it should stay and isn't very wearable for this type of event.
Mary Katrantzou has stunning thick shiny brown hair, and along with her delicate pale peach complexion, I think this all black look isn't doing her any favours, the mass of fabric makes her look quite frumpy. A deep green dress along with her black tights would really compliment both her hair and skin tone and add a subdued splash of colour.
In my opinion, Victoria Pendleton was the worst dressed of the night. Although sporting my favourite trend of the season, the high neck, the rest of the dress is extremely unflattering. This could have been avoided by being synched in at her waist rather than around her lower hips, then skimming past her hips, flowing into a longer skirt. Teaming this dress with a pair of vivid blue killer heels (picking the colour out from the dress panel) would have brought this outfit together as a whole, and perhaps even a tasteful gold clutch to add that red carpet glitz.
Let me know your thoughts on these dresses, and who you think stole the worst (& best!) dressed award of the night.
